and Dave Spicer's experiences in a variety of fields.
About Dave Spicer
Dave Spicer is a reform lawyer having been in a transactional and varied trial practice for over
27 years in the Seattle area and been an owner of both law and escrow businesses. While practicing
law, he developed a very diverse clientele, choosing to represent primarily people with low and
moderate income and people of color. In this age of specialization, he determined to have a very
broad area of practice and worked in over 25 different areas including real estate, business and
corporate, employment, construction, civil rights, personal injury, etc. He has even handled one
major lawsuit involving accounting malpractice.
Dave is also a Rotarian with University District Rotary and has been in Rotary over 21 years. He has been active as a coach for over 20 teams including soccer, track, baseball and basketball. Over the last 15 years, he has served on over 10 nonprofit boards and as President or Chair for many of these organizations. Finally, he has been committed to devoting a portion of his law practice to do pro bono legal work and estimates he has performed over $1M in pro bono legal services over the last 20 years.
After ten years of doing international service projects through Rotary in Rwanda, Ethiopia, and El Salvador, Dave decided to leave his law practice and devote his career to working with extremely poor communities in Central America and Africa. He works with Agros International which does holistic economic development work in Central America and Mexico partnering with extremely poor communities around land acquisition, access to clean water, providing micro loans and business training, housing, and training and technical expertise.
Dave continues to be active with water projects through Rotary in Ethiopia, Nigeria and Kenya and takes yearly trips to oversee and report on the work. By the end of 2008, he will have been involved in over $1.6 M of water projects benefitting an estimated 550,000 of the poorest people on the planet. In addition to the countries above over the past two years, Dave has been involved in a variety of water projects around the world in Iraq, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras and Nicaragua. Because of this experience, Dave and Ezra Teshome, Ethiopian born and now USA citizen in the same Rotary Club, were invited to speak at the United Nations building before a group of Rotarians from around the world in November 2006.
Since October 2006, Dave has worked fulltime with Agros International in fund development to raise money for rural villages, speaks on global poverty issues and Agros before many business groups, neighborhood gatherings, churches and schools, and has traveled on several trips to Central America with major donors to see the work of Agros in the field.
